"Hip Hop as a tool for healing and inspiring. If you had the whole world listening, what would you say?" – The Hip Hop Project

Featured Students

Learn to express yourself through the creative medium of Hip Hop. Consider daily conflicts, the difficulty of making healthy choices, and the need to express yourself. The fusion of hip-hop with mental health has opened the door for students to learn about emotional wellness and how to express themselves in a healthy way.

Students learn about:

• Identity, who they are

• What influences them

• Support structures in their life and how to broaden that safety net

• How to deal with conflict

• How to be a friend to someone in need
Including discussions on depression, alcohol abuse, and suicide

• Resources for support

These concepts are infused with the elements of hip-hop:
Dance and Break Dance
Lyricism (mc: song writing and poetry)
Graffiti Art (urban art)
Beat making / DJ

Students take the hip-hop elements and their knowledge of emotional wellness and fuse it into a creative performance that expresses who they are to their peers.
